Safety - Kill Switch

A magnetic kill switch was located just behind and to the left of the main engine hatch. It basically consists of two thin metal tabs that are separated when a magnet is placed into the holder. On the original board this was connected to a ankle leash so that if the rider falls off, the board would stop.

When the magnet is removed the contacts connect and the HT coil is connected to ground and the spark plug stops firing. Our system was removed and cleaned, but we found that the vibration of the board made the switch unreliable. Since this was a very important feature we installed a new kill switch from West Marine. The original kill switch remains but is no longer included in the kill circuit. The new switch has a buoyant lanyard that connects to a Velcro ankle strap and is fully water (and vibration) proof.
